Matt and I headed off to the Koelner Zoo on the metro. It was lovely: very green, glass exclosures. There was a big family of elephants (about 16), 3 hippos who were having fun in the water and making loud noises and showing off their large teeth. The group was large with a few very well behaved German children, it was a long walk and no complaints from them. The ranger only gave the talks in German but a nice man with reasonable English tried to give us the gist of them once we started walking again. Anyway the forest is beautiful to look at and we got onto some muddy hiking ...

... t seen before. The cafe onsite uses the produce from the gardens in their food. Unfortunately I only found this out after we had currywurst at the reconstructed 1960s pub. Don't think I'll have currywurst again, it's not bad but it wasn't good either. Stables and barnyards had animals. Karen was showing some of the German kids how to feed the horses and cows grass while their parents stood back and watched, obviously not prepared to get their hands dirty and slobbered on as she ...
