Nice character hotel just outside of the main square. Excellent service and the restaurant is to die for.

We met a 2 other couples from London and Stratford Ontario this morning during breakfast. They were travelling together and just starting their Loire Valley bike tour in Blois. We compared maps and queue sheets and they had exactly the same information that we had. We purchased our bike tour from Loire Valley Travel / Rando Velo and they purchase …

... as we checked out the town and the chateau. We also found the place where Leondardo Da Vinci had lived for a while, but it was unimpressive. The next leg wound thru farmlands, vineyards and gorgeous villages. No sooner had we left one village, than we were heading into the next. We had lunch beside the river, just as it started to rain. A few little twists and turns here and there, but pretty straight forward. We left Paris Nord, found the right street, and headed off. We couldn't find, or just missed, the next turn, but saw another street headed in the right direction and off we went. It's impossible to stop and read directions when you're in a ...

This morning was grey, wet, and the long drive took it's toll on our enthusiasm for Chateau D'Oiron near Loudun. This chateau is quite austere and shows little warmth and sign of having been lived in. The main point is that it has a display of quirky modern art installations. The basic theme is that some of the old ...

    The 100 million Euro lottery

Our guests walked 8 kms before breakfast and we spent some time notionally spending the prize from the lottery drawn last night. After checking our tickets at Juan's coffee shop we put together a picnic and spent the day beside the Vienne river and at Chateau Rivau to keep within our original budgets. Rivau, being a Chateau of the Beauvau family who were supporters of the counts of Anjou, was fortified in 1445 and 'Royal stables' were built soon after. Jean of Arc ...
