Hitlers Atlantic wall defences can be seen on the bottom of the dune at 90 degrees having been moved by the dune. Climbing to the top you can see the whole coastline south to Biarritz, and behind nothing but trees for 100's of miles.

... is from the mid 1100s. We chose to visit this castle over the more popular Neuschwanstein (inspiration for the Disneyland castle) because it is less touristy, more authentic and its Rick Steeves' favorite castle in Europe. It is pretty cool! The same family that owned it in the 12th century still owns it now...33 generations, 850 years later. That is amazing! In fact, there are beautifully painted family trees in the treasury of the castle to prove it. ...

... after I was done just to be told by the waitress that the chef would not like it at all. So, I ate up and kept the peace. Didn't want an angry French chef confrontation on my first night in France. Will keep that for later. Hehe!

I’ve given up taking life so seriously. That started about an hour ago when I realised that I am in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The food is great, the people are friendly and don’t forget the wine! Cheers!
