... groups, and they were spectacularly welcoming. Every night a hearty meal was prepared on a fixed menu. They don't own a freezer, so everything that is prepared is fresh that day. This is tricky this year because a tunnel collapsed between La Grave and Grenoble, so the only way to get supplies from outside this tiny valley is to drive 3 hours up and over Galibier and Telegraphe. No fish is available at ...

    Day 5

Wake up early, quickly eat breakfast, get dressed in cycling gear, head to the vans, this is how are mornings begin. We definitely are getting a feel what a pro cyclist goes through during the Tour. Each day you awake and hope your legs will move. I was especially stiff this morning after yesterday and last night's downhill slide. I wasn't feeling great but better than dinnertime when I was really fatigued.

... up the side of the mountain. It is only about 2 miles long but it is very narrow with 18 switchbacks. Unfortunately the French police had different plans. Because this road is so narrow I assume they did not want a lot of fans on the side of this section so they had the road closed. ... In the center of town we turned right, which began our 36 km (22 mile) climb to the top of the mighty Col de Galibier.

The first portion of the climb involves ascending the Col-de-Telegraphe. This climb is 7.3 miles at an avg incline of 7.3%. This was a beautiful climb. Tall pine trees offered a nice amount of shade surrounded us. Today was also much cooler than yesterday. On the way up Rich and I pulled over to help another cyclist that was changing a ...

I awoke today feeling a little stiff but overall pretty
good. After a big breakfast we got ready for a long day on the bike. Today’s
ride was going to cover 64 miles and 7,900 feet of climbing. The main Cols we
were going over today included the Col de L’Epine, the famous Col de la
Croix-Fry, the Col des Aravia and the Col de la Forclaz.

Our ride started off with a nice easy warm-up on a bike path
near the river. Then we arrived at the ...
