... br> In the past I have been less than kind to France. My view was based on our previous visit in 2010 where we stuck pretty closely to the major towns and south coast on the Mediterranean. This time we spent our time in the smaller rural villages and paralleled the coast through
rural and mountain areas. Whilst most of the villages are so depressing it’s a wonder the locals don’t top themselves after their morning coffee, some are real gems. The scenery through ...

After leaving the Piedmont region of Italy, and before heading back to Geneva for the airport, we made a quick two-day stop in the beautiful French alpine town of Chamonix. Arriving here on Thursday in the driving rain, we kept hoping for a break in the weather so that we could see the fabulous alps, including the Mt. Blanc, the highest peak in Europe.

We spent most of the day travelling on the motorways arriving at Chamonix about 3. Mont Blanc had cloud cover, but the glacier was so imposing we did not miss seeing the peaks. Catherine & I walked around the town for a couple of hours yesterday, it is much bigger than we first thought. We found a great ...

So much of life is about timing and luck. Even though we had sold everything we owned, we felt extremely rich. We had our health, great kids and living a dream. Life is full of ups and downs, never take the ups for granted and hopefully learn to weather the downs. ...

... time from Le Brévent to bottom about 5 hours.
For our second walk we caught the bus to the village of Les Praz, and from there took the cable car to La Flégère (1877m) and a further chairlift up to L’Index (2385m). Although lower this appears more alpine than Le Brévent – patches of snow lie in north facing hollows and ice floats on some of the small mountain tarns. The day we arrived mist added to the chill, but we warmed up as we got moving and the ...
