The trees grow very tall, but for ease of picking the flowers they are pruned to grow no higher than 2 metres, so everywhere we saw lots of trees that looked as if a storm had broken them down. We saw the copper vats that the perfume is distilled in - apparently the recipe is 500kg of flowers + 300 litres of water, just to make 12 litres of ylang ylang oil ...

We had an hour's hair raising drive, in the dark, to the small town where we are staying. There are few street lights, but people were walking the roads as the cars tear along them. We were immediately impressed by the lovely smell of ylang ylang and the intense sparkle of the stars against the very black night, with just a tiny sliver of moon to light everything!

... lunch at a deserted lodge. The last part was quiet adventurous, with the quad off road and true the mud. It looked we took the right path but after a while we asked the locals just to be sure! These people are so friendly , incredible. We should do the same in Bonaire with the tourists. Some people jumped up and yelled enthousiastic "Bonjour/ Bienvenue" to us! In the South we also did have experienced like this but the people overthere are more shy then here on Nosy-Be. Great ...

... Island was isolated from Africa so lemurs are only found here; they are white, black and all colors in between. The lemurs are very slow and cuddly, most are nocturnal and difficult to see hanging from tree branches or sleeping in tree trunk depressions.

After a hot 45 minute drive we arrived at a resort hotel and we had a drink and some fruit while listening to group of children chanting a monotonous melody. Back on the bus we went to a lake that was close ...
