    Just a quick one to say thanks for all the birthday messages- I was in Dogon country in Mali on my birthday, part of a 3 day trek. As you know- very hot but well worth it, as I saw the masked dance in Tirelli on the big day.

Two guys in a dark room with only a wobbly wooden, decrepit table, and two shaky chairs placed right below the ticket window, assured me that everything was in order and offered me in a very friendly manner to leave my stuff inside for safekeeping while I waited for my bus. The "operator" can now support his extended family and in 4 months he already has surpassed the average yearly income of $700. In another town a village that is regularly attacked by bandits has been able to have several months of peace as they can now call the local police.

    ... my bus ticket. No one knew which bus company I would be riding on, but there was a general consensus that we should leave the town „at nine“. Tomorrow morning, of course.
