Day 16 - The Monte Carlo
... was the Monte Carlo. We put a little extra effort into getting ready swapping our hiking boots for flats and actually brushing my hair. All dolled up we caught a train in. Day 19
... time on tour and watched the BBC news. Not the most action packed days but still fun and not to ******* the wallet. The hotel is a bit more upmarket and spacious, Three beds in the room and the Mag took one over in the corner as far from me as possible. The bathroom was bigger than Villefranche but the shower was the smallest I have ever been in. I couldn't turn around without banging into either the walls or knocking the tap, it was incredible. We return to the ancestral manse
... As always, the venerable Colombe d’Or restaurant, which guarded the entrance to the village, was surrounded, like a swarm of black flies, by Mercedes, BMWs and Jaguars. The Colombe is stuffed with original art by the likes of Picasso and Matisse—in the 1920’s and 30’s these unknown and impoverished artists stayed at the hotel and the prescient owner accepted their painting as payment in lieu of cash.
