    Another very early start for us this morning which meant getting up again pre dawn. I have never seen as many dawns in my life since we have been on this trip! We were whisked away in the bus from the city of Chios inland over the high mountains towards a medieval stone built village called Mesta.     The apartment is just perfect and we have a lovely relaxing three days before the overnight ferry to Athens. The Raven takes a gentle stroll round the south of the island on the Sunday, and we visit a wonderful fishing village in the north for lunch on the Monday. Apart from that we just enjoy being on our own... being able to prepare our own food, do our own washing, swim in the sea, go walking/running and just catching up with reading, crocheting and contacting people/sorting ...

    The vineyard turns out to be next door to the old railway marshalling yard from which Ataturk once directed the 1937 skirmishes between the Turks and the Greeks from his own private, personalized railway carriage... a carriage made by the same German firm who manufactured a mobile HQ for Uncle Adolf!
