... Moto Hakone port and picturesque Lake Ashi (part of Hakone National Park). On a clear day Mt. Fuji appears beyond the northwestern lakeshore, but it was a mostly cloudy kind of day. I am also beginning to realize that Fuji is perhaps the shyest mountain in existence; I was not surprised it remained hidden. Hungry, we quickly found a bakery recommend by my friend Annaliesse and grabbed some yummy pastries to snack on. Unfortunately the foot bath seats (yes, they had ...

... the "retro bus" all the way to the last station at Kawaguchiko
Shizen Seikatsu-kan (Natural Living Center). I was treated with great views, but just was not in the right position to see Mt. Fuji and the sun setting at the same time. Also, there seemed to be too many ripples in the lake so I didn't get that awesome reflection picture I was hoping for. Still, it was pretty nice.

... our 'regional' train to Hakone. From the station it was about a half hour drive to the cable car, not unlike driving the windy roads of Mt Buffalo. Unfortunately the cable car was not running but we were happy with our day's activities. First to the shrine where the cedar trees were huge. After wandering through the main hall we were fortunate to see a traditional wedding party and then some cute little kids all decked out in traditional garb. Kaoru explained that at age 3 both ...
