... After leaving the hotel a little later than I had hoped, I realised I only had roughly 25 minutes to get to the other side of the city and find a bus station, get a ticket and then find my bus. I wasn’t panicking, but I knew it would be extremely tight. I had to catch a tram, two trains then run with my backpack to the bus terminal, get my ticket and run out and locate my bus, and I was totally reliant on the trains and trams turning up at the ...

... take the city bus right to the site), the visitors at Dachau seemed to be a different sort than the visitors we have seen at the other sites. The majority of visitors at the other sites we have visited have been people who know the history of the Holocaust and want to see the sites for themselves; the majority of visitors at Dachau seemed to be learning much of this history for the first time (or at least for the first time since high school).

... is in the area but which is not nearly as impresive. As we were already soaking wet it did not matter that we were walking in the rain. We then trained back to Munich were we had time to shower and head for some dinner at the state owned beer hall Hofbraunhaus where we had some fantastic beer and the best food of the trip so far esp considering I have been eating out of supermarkets for the most part of the trip.

... the Jews were gassed. I went back to the bus after about 15 minutes of being there. It just angered me to see how one group of people could think that they were far superior to another and could justify taking their lives. It still angers me to think about it now. I have known what they did but to actually go and be where the killing actually happened was just... oh, words can't describe and of the 35 people on the tour everyone handle it ...

... and before we knew it we had another 1L stein of beer to drink! let me tell you we were more than merry by the time we had finished the 2nd one and the rest of the night continued along the same lines. i think from memory we crashed into bed around 3 and awoke this morning with slightly sore heads and craving about 10L of water!! it certainly was a great night but think i need to rest up for a few days .. maybe even weeks... before I could tackle another stein of beer!

... back to 980. We had a very nice dinner in there the place was called Hell. It had some lovely countryside, the trees were just starting to turn, the mist took ages to burn off too, so the place had a great atmosphere. Finally, Munich, dumped our stuff and headed straight to Dachau concentration camp. It was preserved as more of a memorial than anything else, the place had a very peaceful feeling to it. It wasnt like Auschwitz where the reality of the camps ...

... today's injustices. What about the survivors...what is Dachau to them? I believe the work of the memorial makes survivors free to openly share their thoughts and feelings. As we become more educated in the Holocaust, it becomes easier for us to understand the commentary of survivors and to respect their grieving. And for those who died, how can Arbeit Macht Frei mean anything beyond that the labor endured made those lost free, or ...

... one overnight. Its difficult to say what makes Munich stand out otherwise. It does have a more than a fair share of history, museums and buildings, and a very impressive nightlife (something I was too drunk to explore). A very interesting place is the collection of paintings of the most beautiful women of time as ordered by King Ludwig.
