... Oberalppass a couple of days ago, we were all cocky and full of confidence for the first leg of the Rhone route. This first leg involves an ascent up Furkapass - a 1000m gain in altitude over 13km. We did well on that 400m ascent the other day - what could possibly go wrong? So we decided to aim for Brig - 87km away. But it wasn't long before reality set in. My muscles were tired and slow to warm up. Within an hour of leaving this morning (9km in - it ...

... it had been 12 degrees in the sunshine I decided that hiking in the cold rain would not be for me. Luckily the rain didn't last tooooo long and I instead caught the bus to Interlaken and explored the town, all that needs to be said about it is that it's beautiful (you might have already picked up on this) and that if you have deep pockets (and I mean deeeeeeep) it's one of the biggest outdoor adventure sport places in Switzerland and even Europe. They have ...

... a really long tunnel....not quite sure how long but the whole thing took about 26 years to complete. You pop up underground and go through to a series of tunnels and viewing platforms which is amazing...we got out to the highest viewing platform and had a great view of cloud...yes correct the cloud had not cleared and now we were in the middle of it! So we went and look at all the inside things which included an ice cave which had lots of ice cravings ...

... But seriously, who brings someone into a hostel room at 1am with no regard for the other people in it? I sincerely hope he leaves tomorrow. At any rate, I opt to sit in the lobby with the wifi, and learn that sadly there doesn't seem to be anywhere in Germany I can buy GF soft pretzels. I do find several recipes for them, but those aren't much good while I'm travelling. Perhaps someone (who lives with me) might make them once I'm back from Germany? BUT a ...

... green and the lakes and rivers, along with the mountainous backdrops, are breathtaking.

We had an afternoon photo stop at Neuschwanstein which is a castle 1.5 hours from Munich. Not just any castle though. This is the castle which Disney's castle image on the opening credits of their movies is based on. It had scaffolding around a large part of it which was annoying but aside from view of the castle, in and around it is something I hope I'll never forget.
