... it as Jago would never have forgiven me. So settled for lunch and a swim in the sea instead. For dinner we struck gold. We were lucky to get a table at Tipico. The staff were great, everyone in the kitchen even the washing up lady seemed to be enjoying themselves. Burano one of Venice's many islands is like Venice but a lot smaller and way more colourful. It reminded me a bit of La Boca in Buenos Aires. Brightly coloured buildings line the canals and although busy with tourists at this time of year, a lot quieter and it has a sense of calm about it. It is very charming. ... thru 4 tunnels and into Pompeii. Guided 2 hour walking tour of the ruins of Pompeii city destroyed by Mt Vesuvius eruption in Oct 79 AD. Wow in tour only covered about 20% of city as so massive. Had population of 15,000 thousand people within city walls and sea came right to city walls. The sea around 10 km away now. Amazed once again at roman technology. Visited Cameo making ...

The decision in the morning was to visit the Medieval walled city of Piran in the morning, search out a beach for the boys in the afternoon, and spend the evening on the sea wall near the apartment. Piran is only a short distance from where we spent the night, but it is a restricted area so only residences and local buses are allowed past the gates.
