Very nice hotel, very clean and pretty. Good for a quick stopover but not sure if it's near much if you are wanting to sight see. Breakfast was fab - best muesli ever.

Glacier Express to Zermatt, then on to Lucerne

... some reason I wasn't expecting much from Zermatt, but it was love at first sight. It is the quintessential Swiss skiing village, just exactly what you'd imagine, and far prettier than St Moritz in our opinion. The "ritz" in St Moritz kind of sums the place up - it's definitely jet-set country and the streets are lined with the big names of fashion - Hermes, Gucci, Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Louis Vuitton etc etc, with herds of "beautiful people" ...

It was a really interesting museum. They also have a hall of mirrors which was a maze of mirrors reflecting and confusing you on the path to get out. It was a lot of fun! We then walked back to our hotel, after picking up sandwiches ...

... cheese fondue and a traditional Swiss show. Lovely stuff. For the remainder of the day we wandered the streets, read our books under the shade of some trees by the lake and had a look at the lion monument - a mortally wounded lion carved into a cliff face with a spear in it's back. Carved to remember the members of the Swiss Guard who were killed defending a 'vacant' French king during the French Revolution. Tomorrow back to ...

... for checkout and the walk back to the train station. After lunch it was onto the train to Basel, then a transfer to another train for our destination for tonight - Frankfurt. The countryside changed almost immediately after leaving Switzerland. No more lush rolling fields and chalets, now more of a modern landscape with farmland and industry. Our 4hr train ride over, we arrived at 7pm and proceeded to our hotel just a couple of minutes walk ...
