... a lot of fun. Up the gondola over the Rhein to the impressive historic fort and various displays including massive Play Mobil toy museum. We appear to have acquired the habit of drinking an afternoon beer at one of the many street restaurant/bars on our walks/rides home. This practice has a lot to recommend it. Dinner out tonight at an Italian restaurant up the road. Tomorrow we train to Heidelberg. Love ...

Love to live in a castle

... up and up. The 20 minute ride stopped at the top, and we then had to walk some more, going up a very steep cobblestone road. The castle was an awesome display of how the defenders lived and worked in this high spot. Truth be told, much of my 21st birthday was spent on the road, across 3 countries. 7 hours to be exact. Started off in Switzerland and made our North to Germany & ended late in Strasbourg, France where the accommodation didn't even have wifi. Left Spiez early in the morning and headed for Zurich, our last Swiss city. Had a really nice lunch there & collected our car at 4pm. Drove for Freiburg & ...

    Castles on the Rhine

... There are traffic lights on this part of the Rhine to prevent any modern day catastrophes. We did get a closer look at one castle: the Pfalzgrafenstein which sits on a tiny island in the river. Once upon a time it was a toll castle. Uncooperative traders were kept in the dungeon until a ransom was paid. Built between 1326 and 1755, it was never conquered or destroyed. It's a museum now with ...
