Montenegro, the newest country in the world

... in a different kind of place.

We had at least 6 hours to kill before our night train left for Belgrade so we decided to wander around. While we were walking to the downtown area, I kept thinking to myself, "How is this country a part of the EU?" It was really dirty, with litter everywhere. The shops and stores seemed kind of “ghetto.” We eventually found somewhere to eat (after what seemed like a really long ...

... of Ostrog. Ostrog is one of the most visited Orthodox monasteries in the Balkans regions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_ I_of_Montenegro)

Inside the old Monastery, you are able to say a prayer by the remains of St. Basil, as well as light candles for the living and the dead. At the tallest point of the monastery, the view of the mountain (straight down) and the surrounding valley was one of the most stunning ...

... an Ethernet cable (typical me - i forgot mine at home), enjoyed some gelato and bought some food for supper. All this to find out that the time listed on the theater's website was 40 mins later then when it actually started -- and that we missed the first half hour of it. :( Oh well, perhaps we will try it again another day -- or perhaps we will just go and sit at the Budda Bar and relax and enjoy ice coffee and wine!

What It's Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men

... taking all the photos I wanted claiming I take poor pictures. It since crossed my mind he may have removed the film from my camera prior my departing Serbia so I could not take it back with me. One thing I am sure of is both Darko and Bojana refused having any photos taken of them throughout my entire stay. After leaving the scene at the Chinese embassy, we made our way to the home of Darko's father driving through a beautiful park not dissimilar to Central Park in Manhattan along ...

Podgorica, capital of tracksuits and high heels

... street signage to speak of. My 4-star hotel smells like it has only very recently come to terms with the possibility that there may be the need for rooms without any ashtrays. Non-smoking room number 404 has one welcoming me as I enter the roomy loft after having to take the stairs to the top floor where the lift doesn't reach. A rythmic bass noise vibrates the building all the way from the gym in the basement. The building also ...

... crossed into Montenegro- where I was disappointed to discover they don't stamp your passport at the border. I like passport stamps- you don't get enough of them travelling around the EU as I usually do. The old woman in my compartment promptly produced a small buffet from out of nowhere and begain to distribute it to the other passengers in the compartment- apart from one man who appeared to be feigning sleep to avoid having ...

Sun&Beaches in Montenegro - Budva riviera

... smaller ones, sandy, rocky and shingle beaches... more than a hundred. They decorate the Montenegrin coast, embellish the coastal towns and offer excellent conditions for holidays and recreation. Some of them look at the open sea, while others are wild and hidden in bays, accessible only by boat. The beaches are located at the rivieras of Herceg Novi, Tivat, Kotor, Budva, Bar and Ulcinj. The ...

... but was relatively easy as we stopped often to look at the view and take photos. Some pilgrims climb up in bare feet and on their knees, whilst some take the mini bus which runs every so often. It was worth the walk, as we got to the top there were bells ringing, and we went into the church to see the holy relics..it was amazing.

Kotor, Montenegro August 21-23

One thing I didn't mention about Belgrade was 1) it was good preparation for a trip to the sun, and 2) we had no water the whole last day at the hostel, which is why I ponied up 10 euro to go to a pretty ****** gym just so that I could get a shower. I thought this was an anomaly til I got to Kotor and the guy at the hotel told me that the water in the city was "kaput" was his exact expression. Guess it isn't that rare in these parts after all to have no ...

... On the first night, nothing happens. On the second night, again nothing happens. On the third night, the woman asks the man, "what are you waiting for?" He replies, "an earthquake." Get it? We visited the towns of Perast, Budva and Kotor. Perast has a long nautical tradition that's produced some renowned seamen. Across from Perast are two islands: a natural island with the church of St. George and a man-made island with the Church of The Madonna of ...
