Busy morning to accommodate all the unpacked items so carefully arranged on the journey from Aachen. But alas I have an Uncle who passed away exactly a year ago to the day! His wife, Aunty Mia could hardly wait to welcome me so that I could go through the volumes of clothing – of outstanding quality and condition; too good for just anybody to wear – for me to try on and take to Australia. A particularly impacting moment came as Arnold and I said goodbye to one another, fully knowing that we may never see each other again ...

After almost missing my train from Herzogenrath to Gladbeck, I was relieved to experience a Regional train which is generally far more crowded with local commuters. It was a joy to be reunited with my cousin Brunhild (from my Mother's side) in the nigh darkness.

Norbert and Brunhild welcomed me to their home and we made plans for the following ...

... He also recommended that we go to a place called Rosie's for breakfast. We arrived at Rosie's to find that it was actually closed until 10 so we went back and checked out the park we had passed and found a giant church before returning to get some food. Breakfast here is pretty weird. You tend to order jams, cheeses, or meat and it comes with rolls to put it on. I ended up with a bagel and lox and herbed cream cheese with a soft boiled egg on the side. ...
