... and the residence

Hallo zusammen,

Woke up this morning to oppressive humidity as we slowly slid down Europe's southernmost fjord. Remnants of the former Yugoslavia's military bases still cling to the coastline, with submarine storage carved back at the shoreline and look ...

... Undeterred by the prospect of a lightning strike we pressed on until reaching the ruined fortress at the top of the mountain, where not to tempt fate we kept our heads down, took a quick picture, and then hurried off back down the mountain.  We stayed at the Hippo hostel in Budva, a very friendly and relaxed place with a nice garden where we had a BBQ one evening and an extensive DVD collection that was good for a quiet night in.

What It's Like to Chill with the Most Ruthless Men

... for a night out. If you're a woman, you understand when you have a crush on someone as I did Darko, you usually give into his demands easily; so I did. Upon changing, Dark and Bojana were waving me to hurry to the car; exhausted I got in and slammed the door. Less than ten minutes up the pitch black road Darko pulled the car over and we got out. Darko and Bojana said, "Hurry Jill look down there." At the bottom of the cliffs was the most beautiful city of lights I've ever seen ...

I pointed out to the barman that I hadn't ordered another one. The bloke next to me turned to face me and raised his glass. "For you my friend, is present for coming to my country, Montenegro!" Baking in Montenegro

... in architecture to Dubrovnik) but mercifully free of the cruise ships and associated tourists. There is a very impressive walled fortress stretching up the hill and I'm sure the view from up there would have been great...but really, so was the air-con. We had a quick look aroud the town, but heat and white rock walls don't mix too well, so we headed back to Croatia (in reality, we just wanted to spend more time at the border) in preparation for our epic journey tomorrow.

... us off in a town called Niksic, which is about 2-3 hours south of Durmitor N.P. We had hoped to get to the NP by that night, but by the time we arrived in Niksic, we learned there was no more buses out to the park that day, and we would have to spend the night in Niksic. Dissapointed, but looking forward to an early evening and relaxing for a night, we started looking for information on the town we were stuck in and for a place to spend the night. To ...

The newest country on earth

... make an exodus from the beach for the day. That night, Montenegro surprised us again. The city presented itself as sophisticated enough to draw crowds of sunworshippers and partygoers and technologically advanced enough to entertain them throughout the night with astoundingly loud music that literally reverberated throughout the valley. Who knows, maybe clubs even advertised the appearance of the hottest new DJs from Ibiza or Berlin. Nevertheless, the place was almost entirely ...

Walled town on a dramatic fjord- back in time!

... were well hidden and we weren't able to locate one. Herceg Novi is a busy, but not particularly attractive walled town, with a confusing one-way traffic system. The map we were using doesn't always highlight where streets are one way (or, indeed, where streets are actually stairs) and this leads to some navigational surprises. We escaped through an exciting dark tunnel, and made our way close to the beach. There we drove ...
