... of Pozsony although I had no idea that they were the same city. I check Student Agency which I have used twice before. Bingo. Gyor to Budapest. Takes 50 minutes direct and only costs E5. Only 2 buses per day so we leave at 6 PM.
The abbey's church is quiet impressive. Significant parts of it do go back to 1000 AD. The monastery is still active and the views from the top of the hill are excellent. Well worth the day trip.
Surprisingly to me ...
Over coffee, Sharon and I compare experiences in Prague and Budapest. We both feel that we have had excellent ones. For me, I could have spent a week more in each going to the many museums in depth while Sharon has obtained the feel of the city and seen the main sites so feels sated.
By 10:00 we are on a train for 2 hours to the small town of Gyor. It has a large pedestrian area with a ...
... ran the place looked just like a hobbit. He was short, squatty and he had grey hair that came out of his nose and ears. He carried around this big, long glass flask that looked like some sort of medical instrument from the middle ages, and that's what had the wine in it. His wine wasn't that good, I must confess, but he was such a great host. He got everyone dancing and playing games after the wine tasting. The trip to the wine cellar was a real bonding moment for our group ...
Gyor, Gyor, Hungary bramity... girlfriend sandra will be opening a coffee house / bar in a few weeks. They are taking over ownership of one already running, so we went there for drinks later in the evening. About 8 friends came, and most of them did not speak any english... i am used to it by now! There was a fuse ball table, and i have never seen anyone play like them. Apparently the men in town are much better, which I find hard to believe!
Gyor, Hungary ricolola... last 1,000 years or so and as such the artistic and architectural styles run the gamut from baroque and rococo all the way back to romanesque statuary in the cellars that was defaced by the invading Ottoman Turks.
It's also one of the biggest wine producers in the region, making some pretty tasty stuff.
Poobede sme vyrazili smer Kosariska. Pridala sa s k nam aj Gejzova manzelka a este jeden Ferov kamos a Kosariska boli nase. Odchadzali sme az ked slnko sedelo na obzore.
Dunajska Luzna, Slovakia mozi... is located a vast underground bunker system and fortress, first built by the Austrians, but later used by the Nazis to house people on route to the concentration camps, and later still by the Russians in their occupation of the region. The complex was cast, and we could explore virtually any any we wanted... but the rooms were all completely empty. It has the potential to be a wonderful museum, but as it stands ...
Pomocou PDA zisťujeme, ze zo Sörédu pokračuje stará cesta rovnobezne s 81tkou, no má len cca 4 km. Po nemecky ...
Komarno, Nitra, Slovakia thailon... the first 10minutes, it must be admitted, there were few decisions to be made: left=fields, right=river, straight on=the path- still good then. We stopped at a snack hut at about 1pm, where Heinrich had a pint (he scoffed at the idea of sticking to water, saying he tried it once but 'water didn't give him energy') and I ordered some food, since I hadn't managed to pick up breakfast in Bratislava. Not having any means of communication with the woman at the counter, I adopted ...
Komarno, Slovakia dynamoWe biked from Bad Deutsch to Bratislava (historic Slovak capital); then continued to bike from Bratislava to Mosonmagyarovar (38 miles)
Our Hungarian tour guide would not travel into Slovakia (he said he wasn't "licensed", but we really wanted to go, so we crossed the border and biked about 7 miles into Brataslava without support. We toured the town which was a wonderfully preserved university town, with nicely ...
