Our turnaround point was Orhaniye, which is where I put the location of this blog, and once again, we anchored just below a Byzantine fort on a tiny island, which became a pirate hideout after it was abandoned. Nowadays there are lots of rabbits, fed and watered by a bloke who comes over every day.

... the bus drivers. We parked in the back corner next to a park / kiddies' playground and went for a walk. Although Dalyan is clearly a tourist base it had a very positive and relaxed feel. The streets were clean and attractively designed.

We shared a meze platter and I had my first fresh pomegranate juice. Good stuff – healthy too. When we got back to the van at about 10pm the carpark was indeed quiet – all the buses ...

We walked down to the restaurant and were intrigued by the containers of water at every bend. Water - to bus used in the event of a fire!

Our walk took us along the sea front at dusk - so picturesque but a huge new hotel may have an impact. Unfortunately the road is too narrow to safely walk back, at night. This meant we said no to the deserts!

... Turkey – yet. I suspect they are working on that as we found some new, well organised trail markers and followed one along reasonable gradients through some out of the way villages. It was great to be away from the traffic and to get a peek of life away from tourist towns.
