... of beach towels. The clinic wasn't hard to find. They took pity on a confused English tourist and took a look at Saskia's toe despite being a psychiatrists. They probably gave it some therapy too. The psychiatric nurse cleaned it up and disinfected it, the way I'd been doing, but this time with some bright green antiseptic that made Saskia's toe look like it belonged to a witch. They said the stitches could come out tomorrow and they didn't seem worried about the ...

... a line at exactly the right height for the person who has set them. In other words, if you aren't six foot two, you are stuffed. Both would probably give you splinters, as the chipboard they are fixed to was swollen and split with age and weather. It was only for the brave, believe me!

So, I set up the tent while the kids bounced on the trampoline. Then Nick made pancakes on the little camp-stove I'd bought all those weeks ago in England. He managed to set ...

The 1st day.

... look, what's standing there? - Estonian, he is running." We were suprised, beacuse we didn't have any nasty jokes about Latvians. Anyway, by the end of the day we had reached Lithuania. We ate some sandwitches in a gas station, made some pics once again and caught our final ride of the day: a Polish lorry driver. Our first night went by in a Polish gas station, sleeping in a small bunk bed.

... had traditional saunas for men and women, one Turkish-style steam sauna, one 15m swimming pool, one smaller pool with warm water (27°C) and jacuzzi for 5-6 people. Unsurprisingly, the jacuzzi was full most of the time. Maybe other spa treatmets like infra-red sauna, massage etc make this a good spa (didn't try those) but I wouldn't come here for the pools.

After taking a part in a minor sauna competition with some other Finnish guys and walking to the showers I nearly ...

Pärnu, August 25, 2005 - Thursday

My original plan for the Baltics had envisaged roughly the same time in all three Baltic states, not counting first days in Visaginas. But the deal with Jonas Vilimas in Vilnius and Ruta's undefined plans eventually disrupted all that, so at the end of the day I visited some places I was not going to, and had to skip some I had counted on. One of the casualties was Pärnu, arguably the most popular Estonian town this ...

Blog closed - new trips in blogger.com

This blog is now finished. I will stay in Estonia for a couple of days, celebrate the weekend in Riga, and fly to Singapore on Monday. I will be living & working in Singapore for about 1-1,5 years (well, that's at least the plan), traveling around the neighboring countries. If and when I manage to create a blog about my trips around there, it will most probably reside in blogspot.com. Life goes on. Enjoy every moment.

Happy ending! (new trip next week)

... one too fast (so almost got fined) Generally, it feels very strange, looking back at the past weeks. So many different places, so different people, so different experiences. A bit unbelievable that I was in South Africa only yesterday. But what do you know - just a bit more than 20 hours of flying, sleeping, eating, driving - and that's that!

... us to the veue to appreciate the idea that 100,000 people had turned up, 10 percent of the whole population of the country!! We then drove to the Old Town. We have been pretty unlucky with the weather. As we arrived at the walls of the city a storm and torrential downpour occurred. We saw the Presidential palace and the beautiful Russian Orthodox church opposite. The town was packed wth tour groups. There were several Cruise ships in port for the day so we had to ...

... a journey through a 'New Europe', a meander behind the old iron curtain. I was staying in a hostel called 'the monks bunk' which is situated in the old town area of Tallinn for Eek270 per night. On the walk from the ferry terminal you are passing through Tallinn's 'new town' with its modern city centre, shopping plazas, and even the odd skyscraper or two, and you could be in any city in the world but when you pass through the 'Great Coast Gate' and into the winding cobbled streets of the ...

Parnu

Bussed down the country 127km south on Eurolines to Parnu, staying Koidula Park hotel On Kuninga (more reminisent of a Blackpool B&B I'd say only dearer), beside it was an 18th century Elizabethan church with lovely maroon and ochre brick work and over looking Koidula park. All very nice and the sun was splitting the rocks, so after a walking tour we went to the Superbrand beach the 1st afternoon til after 7pm, seemed to be a really nice place altogether UNTIL we tried to get food. They ...
