Much to our surprise, there was a beautiful little church nestled just above the water, which we later realized was called Church of Sveti Jovan at Kaneo. Another treasure was a silver display which purportedly included a bit of a wrist bone of St John the Baptist. ... Ohrid is pretty ordinary but the architecture was quite different and makes the town different to all the others we have visited so far. The town is right on lake Ohrid. The lake is 2/3 bounded by Macedonia and 1/3 Albania. The lake is huge and would be an ideal summer place to visit. Ohrid has experienced a longer winter this year and more snow than usual, much like the rest of Europe so it hasn't quite warmed up there ...

... angles. I got a fridge magnet of the very attractive red and yellow Macedonian flag. From the fort, we went to a church that had old mosaics that were being excavated. From there we took a path to the most photographed church in Ohrid...or maybe of all of Macedonia. It was on a cliff over the lake. This was the church of St John. There were yellow flowers and white iris and it was very photogenic.

Then we went down to the ...
