Today could not have been more perfect! After the downpour yesterday, today was perfectly sunny - the same temperature, but the sun changes everything... So I decided that the weather was perfect for a hiking tour and went to Yamadera, about an hour West of Sendai (with a very slow train). Sendai was a nice surprise. It is about 350 km north of Tokyo, but only took about 1.5 hours to get there on the bullet train. Sendai was heavily bombed in WWII and was rebuilt with large avenues so is easy to get around.

... they were heaven! A rather soft paste of mashed Japanese sweet potato, filled with two chestnuts. Probably difficult to imagine and unfortunately impossible to bring with me to Europe - they need to be stored in the fridge (to show you how seriously the Japanese take this - the lady in the shop had put some cooling thing into the bag...) But I'll be going back to that shop for some more before leaving Sendai ...
