WE DID: - took a train from Utsunomiya to Yamagata then a bus to Zao Onsen - used the cable car to get to the top of Mount Zao, explored the peak and went back again - Checked in to our hotel before making our way to Dairotemburo Onsen, a sulphur-laden public bath for a soak amongst nature - an incredible buffet dinner at ...

The hostess kindly offers us an umbrella which comes in very handy! There is a lot of wind and horizontal rain, luckily we don't have far to go and the umbrella shields our faces from the rain. For several hours there are gushy winds and lots of rain, then it calms ...

This is our first layover for a few days.  We are hoping to spend a day touring and then a day to tour and enjoy lunch with our friend Yuko. The house that we are staying at is incredibly beautiful. We are up the side of a cliff with lots of stairs and very steep small road up so no worries about getting exercise. The sun ...
