... you would think that if they got a big side wash hit them they must surely sink.

We were both very tired when we got to Bergen op Zoom as it was a long day with 6 hours in wind and rain with occasional sunny and dry patches. The visibility at times was very bad especially on the wide expanse of open water with lots of barges about, but we did it OK as fortunately it didn't last too long. A quiet evening and early night ...

... 400 others at the service tonight. A school played an orchestral item and a choir sang. There were 5 playing the bugle. Goosebump stuff! By this stage it was dark and we wondered if that might add to the "fun" of finding our way back to Brugge (a 50min drive). But if anything it was easier with less traffic. Status report: Up 0645 CET perky: Yet again an LSD dream filled night but this time attributable to the lobster and shrimp in garlic butter/(with frites - ordered to the horror of the chef) washed down with Belgian Beer. The latter explaining the slight dull ache in my left sinus. A low mist hangs over the polders visible outside out bedroom window and in the distance you can just make out a very large container ship ...

There are a number of one day excursions that you can undertake independently or in a group. In Suriname it is easy and not expensive to arrange your private means of transport, if you don't want to rent a car. - Rent a bike in Paramaribo (e.g. at Zus en Zo), like many Dutch visitors do. Make a bike tour in and around the city. The countryside of Pramaribo's surroundings is flat and the roads are OK. - Take a taxi and bargain for a a good price. Your private driver ...

On Tuesday we left Amsterdam and drove to the coast of Belgium to a town called Oostduinkerke. Yas (Mum's friend) had arranged an apartment there for us that would cost us nothing. Even though we had originally wanted to stay a few nights in Brussells and Brugge by staying in the apartment it saved us a heap of money and it still allowed us to do day trips to all the towns and cities we wanted to see. At 1pm we arrived and met Bernard and his wife who were the owners of ...
