We were both very tired when we got to Bergen op Zoom as it was a long day with 6 hours in wind and rain with occasional sunny and dry patches. The visibility at times was very bad especially on the wide expanse of open water with lots of barges about, but we did it OK as fortunately it didn't last too long. Today is day one of the bus trip. Up at 4am to be at the nearby hotel for pick up. Barely felt like you had got to sleep and we were up and on our way. On the bus and after collecting the rest of the group we set off for Dover and a ferry ride across the channel to meet our real bus And driver, Antonio. Howard is the Tour Director and certainly seems to know his stuff. Today is confirmation that cruising is not likely to make it to our agenda any time soon. Feeling ...

    Daytrips around Paramaribo, Surinam

A travel blog entry by carlverschuren on Jan 18, 2013

There are a number of one day excursions that you can undertake independently or in a group. In Suriname it is easy and not expensive to arrange your private means of transport, if you don't want to rent a car. - Rent a bike in Paramaribo (e.g. at Zus en Zo), like many Dutch visitors do. Make a bike tour in and around the city. The countryside of Pramaribo's surroundings is flat and the roads are OK. - Take a taxi and bargain for a a good price. Your private driver ...
