... Nonnenweir and headed for Illhausern and Riquewhir, two wonderful Alsacian old towns along the famous "Route des Vins d'Alsace" Even though the auberge were we wanted to have lunch was closed for their holiday, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at an adjacent restaurant.

On day 6 we woke up on our lovely spot near the small channel. Unfortunately there are no photos of the tent at the channel.

We quickly found out what the cause of this strange woodpeckery sound at night was. A woodpecker. This thing probably ate the wrong berries before his nightly freak out.

Germany so far is that all restaurant menus are in German. Sometimes in
the city menus will also have English translations, or restaurants will
have an English menu. That was not the case at Cafe Gugel, although our
waitress (also the owner and wife of the chef) did her best to help us
translate. We ended up settling on a couple of items from their autumn
menu and were not disappointed. It was probably the best German meal ...

Not much else to really do. There is a castle up the hill (way up the hill), but the prince still lives there so you can't get in. You are allowed to visit the gardens, however, but we didn't think that was worth the climb.

Stopped at a little outdoor cafe for some lunch, which was nice. Everyone here speaks English, no problem. That standard answer ...
