We felt very privileged and were treated very well in the ryokans, I'll miss Japan.

We also enjoyed the 7 samurai home village, with bonsai and the intriguing kanakasi airplane fighters museum with photos of all of them. They looked so young and an old man giving a talk about it, still a lot of interest, after all these decades. No photos allowed.

The train had also stopped at Kareigawa and Osumi-Yokogawa stations, which are over 100 years old. It is amazing how well the timber had lasted. At the second station, they had this incredible piece of artwork. It had been painstakingly made by coloured sticks and on stepping back, it was a picture of the old railway station, a bit like the aboriginal got paintings.

... are 5 Johns in this tour group, so it gets a bit confusing) had lunch at the small noodle place in the station. It was that small that I had missed it completely. The udon noodles there were delicious, maybe because we were starving by that stage. There was a roasted chestnut place across the road so I darted off to buy some. Not as large and not as tasty as the ones at the roadside diner that Shigeki took us to.

SL Hitoyoshi from Hitoyoshi to Yoshimatsu

through rural Japan stopping 2-3 times at lovely wooden 100 yr old stations. Some stations had food available such as Nashi pears and tempura vegetables
