... FC - Momo's team!!! Absolutely crazy - small world!!! Hard to believe really!

The guys left at around 5pm as they had to catch a 16 hour train to Delhi. I went back to my room but ended up going out for dinner at a local restaurant which was ok and very cheap compared to the hotel!!

On my way back, a group of young guys on scooters drove past me and one of them put his finger up at me!! Random - I told them to **** off and they found it very amusing!

... shrine. After this visit as planned we also visited the mountain top, Patnitop and Sanasar . We had one and half days in hand , before travelling to Jammu,at Delhi.Hence, we took days trip to Jaipur. While on our return journey ,we travelled to Chandigarh. So in a span of 12 days , out of which six days were in the train as we were travelling from Bangalore, we could cover four destinations. So we guess it was a well planned trip.

... the property but we did not have time to see it. The exhibit had a great timeline on the Nehru Dynasty and provided a lot of historical information about Nehru's legacy. We tried to get go see the meeting point of the two holy rivers along with a nearby fort and temple but by the time our rickshaw drivers figured out where to go (they always say they know even if they don't) we had to turn around and get back so we could take a taxi to Varanasi. At least we got to see a little of Allahabad.

Mirzapur-Somewhere near Rahunganj 125km

A night on a hard mud hut schoolroom floor provided rest after a 125km ride over gravel, sand, potholes, a mountain and some tarmac. It was beautiful 'though, from Uttar Pradesh into Madhya Pradesh; Gangetic plain to highland drama and down. Rocky outcrops with silhouetted monkeys and eagles against deep, long valleys and peaks turning blue into the distance greeted us on completion of a gruelling, annoyingly steep, long and bumpy slog up a tabletop mountain that ...

... of giving to the gods. In the early morning, thousands of pilgrims moved through the streets of Allahabad towards the sangam under sodium lamps. I moved with them, carrying my backpack with me; all the hotels were either full or trying to charge extortion rates that I wasn't willing to pay on a holy day, much less any day. Most pilgrims at this point was in great spirits. People handed out free milk tea or chai and samosas and curry, and sweets in the streets. Everyone was ...

... of the other places we have been and the Coumb festival was going on. Apparently there was an influx of 30 million people to the city for the event! It was very busy!!! Then we went to Varanasi and saw the ghats. This morning we went on a boat ride and watched the sunrise on the Ganges. We also got to see burning ghats, or creamatoriums, which was a really interesting experience. I did some shopping in Varanasi and finally convinced Adam that he should buy his mom a ...

Chitakrut and beyond...

Not sure where I am actually on the map right now, writing from Allahabad, India. Left Chitakrut this am...another small very holy village in India. One of the branches of the Ganges runs through this town so there were many ghats and holy happenings here. We did a walking pilgrimage or circumambulation in town yesterday evening which according to our leader, was the equivalent of Muslims going to Mecca. We took an evening boat ride ...

Jawaharlal Nehru's birthplace!

Allahabad was where India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru was born. We toured his family's house, now a museum, and it was very inspirational to see the rooms where Gandhi stayed and the balcony on which he worked when he was ...

... t want to buy, and say "NO" to children continuously who nagged around me saying some Japanese words... At the same time, I was amazed by the hardiness of people there who survive hard life. I also visited Sarnath, which is 10km north of Varanasi. Sarnath is said where Buddha delivered his first sermon after enlightenment in Bodh Gaya. That's why there were many Buddhist temples and ruins. Ruins had ...
