I arrived safely in Almaty after a grueling 30 or so hours of travel. Actually, the flights over were fairly comfortable--for both the long flights (San Fran-->Frankfurt-->Almaty) I had two whole seats to occupy, which was nice. We made a special trip to the office of "Migration Police" to register our presence in the city. Foreigners who stay for longer than 5 days in Kazakhstan are required to do this and are expected to carry the certificate along with their passports.
