... the major issue was that when I woke up and headed for the train station I found that it was absolutely bucketing down with snow in Tokyo. It was that kind of frigid, bleak, grey, misty day that makes you want to curl up next to the fire with a good book and never leave the house. But I decided to go anyway because I had already booked my very expensive hotel (with Mt Fuji views from the balcony, she says rubbing her hands together in delight). I boarded ...

Here the hot springs, erupting geysers and bubbling pools of boiling mud dominate a fascinating landscape. We take the Hakone rope way from Sounzan down to Togendai on lake Ashinoko. We take a boat journey around the lake which is a water filled volcanic crater with a circumference of 18K. We are now making our way to Tokyo by ...

It was late when we got back to the ryokan. Thank goodness! I could now have a bath at the public bathroom with no one else to see me in the nudies. There were three other families there at the ryokan.

... had some fun on the lake. Mt. Fuji showed up a while and the exercise was memorable.

Only relying on public transportation means we have to spend much time traveling from one place to another. We had to take two buses, in between transfer 30-min waiting, to get to our next stop, bat's cove. The cove was really like a secret base underground. In some places you have to not only kneel down, but lie down and crawl! Quite cool inside, even a little cold. After ...
