    Baska to Krk Town

A travel blog entry by jephcottjourney on Jul 07, 2015

On our last full day we decided to drive the full length of the island, which only took 40 minutes and see the town of Baska. The town is famous for a stone tablet found with some of the areas oldest known language. The area is also famous for FKK, which is a acronym used to describe their nudist beaches. This trend was actually started by Queen Elizabeth II uncle, King Edward VIII, who loved to bath in the ...

... from the heat as temp. had now reached 37 Celsius. Inside the temp. of the cave was around 15 degrees Celsius. The cave was discovered in the mid 1800s and only opened to the public in 1997. Next we went to the cliffside city of Vrbnik. Luckily, the town street were only built for people, no cars, which made for a pleasant walk in the shade of the town buildings. We followed a local old man carrying a towel and we assumed headed for the beach. We were correct and it's a ...

The drive from Plitvice was interesting and very beautiful. We drove through the city of Otocac where a lot of the fighting occurred in the 90's. The town still has a lot of visible signs of sniper holes in the buildings and some shelling damage. Em received a first hand lesson on some of the effects of war on a location. We rented an amazing 2 story apartment right in a small harbor in the town of Klimno. The island is famous for its caves and a beach with healing ...

... out as a narrow two lane road skinnied down to a one lane road then to barely wide enough to fit our little car on. Hairpin turns and a drop off that would take your breath away. We crawled up it for 2-3 miles since there was no turning around, until Lee couldn't take it anymore .. We jockeyed around Austin Powers style on one of the switchback turns. A couple of Chez guys gave up driving it too and we found them ...

... the 5-6 hour walk. After a wonderful day in the forest we continued our journey to the coastal city of Opatija and our next apartment. We arrived late and unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't go for a swim in the pool so we watched movies on sky and relaxed with pizza. A wonderful unexpected day as we thought we were just going to be in transit on our way to Venice. Bye for now - Grace
