Weeks 8-9: Denmark, Spain and a Belgian Hospital

... that is Denmark (25% GST amongst other taxes!!!), it had some nice-looking pubs and eating places too.

On Thursday morning I said goodbye to Emil, had breakfast with Claus and Louisa, and Claus dropped me at the the train to Copenhagen. Once there I had about 3 hours to spare before I had to be at the airport for my flight to Spain, and so I stowed my luggage in lockers at the train station, found a map and went on a zooming 2-hour bolt around Copenhagen. What a wonderful city ...

Back to my dutch family heritage

... old house, and a few other local sights. We stopped by the stables and said hello to Maud's horse as well as riding past the kids' schools. It was quite sunny so we stopped for lunch at a cafe and ate outdoors looking at the river. I let Hugo choose what I should eat and so I experienced 'Frikandel' - a kind of deep fried sausage. I asked what was in it but they refused to tell me until after I ate it. Suffice to say I felt as if I could get home at a brisk ...

Most horrible restaurant ever in SPA Belgium

During our stay in Spa we had the most scary, horrible, unpleasant experience ever in a restaurant.

The restaurant to avoid is "Le Bouchon Gourmand", the owner does not hesitate to insult customers, lock them into the restaurant if there is a dispute on the bill, and claim more money than is due.

See more on www.bouchon-gourmand.blogspot.com

Whew!!! Busy Day!!

... take me so we can move the mattress in. I am probably going to have to move the rest of my stuff with the bus tomorrow, but it should be ok. I only have class until 1pm, so I will have the rest of the afternoon free. Tomorrow I need to figure out internet for the new place, move in, and hang up my proofreading flyers.

When I left this morning, I knew that I had tons of stuff to do, and I also just knew that none of it would work ...

First Class Taught Alone = Success

One of the teachers that I assist couldn't be here at all this week, and he asked me if I felt comfortable taking over his class for the week. I said I would, and this weekend he emailed me some information about what to do and discuss in class.

Our topic today was "If you had the power to change the world, what would you change?" The students are to write their own first chapter of a book entitled "Ecotopia." Today we ...

Lean Green gives up the ghost

... They told us we were at the highest point in Belgium, which was somewhere in the Nature Park.

We decided to call it a day for the roadbook, and make a detour to just get into Luxembourg for fuel, and to make sure we 'did' all the countries.

Looking back that detour cost us some time, but did mean we visited Luxembourg, even if it was too dark to see it.
Picked up the Lean Greens

... on.

We stopped at one point, because the roadbook wasn't very clear, at which point Gaz and Charlotte came up behind us. They had been left behind by the V8s, as they were in a Series vehicle, so we said we'd stick with them.
At this point, Kieran noticed a strange noise from our engine, which was duly investigated by James. It was diagnosed as the fan belt tensioning pulley. But we didn't do anything about it at the time.
... none of my pictures turned out well enough to post. But this was a pretty amazing day. It helped me realize the difference is scale between Canada and Europe. We travelled through 5 countries in one day without even trying. We woke up in Luxembourg, ate breakfast, drove through the old town then parked and explored it on foot, ate lunch and wandered around ring roads for over an hour, including a side trip to ...

Cologne... mmm that smells nice.

... that Holland ist vorbei (Holland is finished). :) Gotta love the foreigner's taunts. We were so tired from no sleep in Frankfurt and decided it was high time for a beer anyway, so we went to the middle of town and sat at a little outdoor bar where they had the game on in the window. Eric practically fell asleep watching the game, so we got on the train at 4:30 to Bad Neuenahr, where we were to meet Vince and his traveling companions. Somehow we made ...

After hiring bicycles we had barely pedalled our way out of the western edge of the town before ...
