After a lazy morning, we had lunch in Balk at a little fish shop by the river.
Then we went to Lemmer
This little harbour on Friesland has been the destination of our family for many a trip. Papa used to sail from here on his friend's yacht. So we often came to visit, when they were getting ready to leave or when they had just returned.

After Schokland, we then travelled on to the next "island" - Urk. This too was an island until the Noordoostpolder was created. And this too has a lighthouse, this time still complete and active.

... some time in the museum and watching a film, learning about the history of the stones and life of those that lived in their time, over 5,000 years ago. Afterwards, some time to look at the stones themselves. Unlike Stonehenge, you can touch and stand among these, which was a good experience.

Up early to get a start as we were leaving for the Netherlands and had quite a long drive ahead. This hotel we stayed at was very interesting. It was in a hotel that has been renovated, however, it was still a pub out the front. It was closed on Wednesdays, and we had to find out where breakfast was as no one came and checked on us or asked if we needed anything, but that was fine.
