... 8220;bad people”. Here lies the dilemma, in India. Everyone warns you to be on your guard. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve been told “don’t trust anyone”. The problem is by warning you of this, people are inherently suggesting they themselves are trustworthy. So, perhaps, people choose to trust nobody rather than trust everybody; neither approach is particularly healthy. Even my semi ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India invadingindia... this huge fortress built hundreds of years ago, viewing the surrounding mountains was a truly memorable experience. We continued towards Jodhpur, and shortly after we stopped for some lunch and tea, we visited the largest Jain temple in India - Adinath. I couldn't help but laugh as the temple came into view - I was comlpetely gobsmacked. Inside was a beautiful maze of pillars, all intricately carved with different patterns and stories. I ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India owain... around, looking at the artifacts and arcitecture. This one room was just amazing, covered in gold and and mirrors and cozy cusions to sit on. It was roped off though so I couldn't get a great pic but it really was fabulous. I'm so impressed by the way all of the palaces are built, it's such a shame that the Brits came and desroyed the culture and way of life here....and they couldn't even build a proper road while doing it!!!! <br>I wish I could have ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India travelbug15... I did enjoy my birthday beer and my birthday chocolate cake, however, which was the perfect finishing touch to a good day. (We gave the leftover cake to the drivers of the bus, who totally deserved it for being capable of making U turns across 4 lanes of traffic!) *video* ACTUAL MARCH 16 - Woke up in this city at 3 am with stomach problems, but that's TMI for all you viewers. Woke up again at my usual 6 am partly because of the noise in this city. Traffic and my ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India jessica.maybar... to use the internet at a guesthouse and were dragged into a local wedding. They were very friendly and welcoming, feeding us some food, but we politely left as soon as possible, feeling like we were imposing! The next day we would explore the fort, which being built upon a 125 meter hill, makes it even more visually impressive than the one in Jaisalmer. Mehrangarh Fort is over 1500 years old and is the only fort never to be conquered in Rajasthan. There's a ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India trent... and branches and damaged furniture blown out into the desert previous year) after the villagers finish their performance, they too gathered around a fire of their own for warmth. We finished our bottle of Brunello di Montalcino 2003 around the fire before it died out. -it not the best vintage btw, the weather was too hot in 2003. 2004 is a fantastic vintage on the other hand :)
Osian, Rajasthan, India cresc... Below the fort is a charming city filled with markets, bazaars and endless vendors approaching us to sell something. We cannot walk 20 feet with out the predicatble "Hello! come look at my fabrics. Just looking, no problem". I was baffled when I passed the barber shop and one yelled out "Come sir, I give haircut". Hmmmm, the little I have is already short. We visited a fabulous temple/ tomb that was in a hilltop park setting ...
Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India markkacik... my full attention, and I would fully grasp my surroundings.....I passed the days like this... Day three: I realize that everything out here looks the same, so I stop trying to figure out where I am....then I start to notice that Rikki is sending his lil bro out to every other farmer .....I finally understand he is getting directions....the *******s are lost.... " Rikki, you ever been to Pokaran???" I slowly set the spring in the trap, tense and waiting." I mean is ...
Osiyan, India w4nderer... on foot, in the ubiquitous 3 wheeled cars, and motor scooters; sheep, goats and of course every shape and size of cow. Since we've been in India we've become used to the sound of honking horns but this was just more...that's all I can say, it was just more. Finally the assault on our senses that I had been anticipating. We walked down a narrow street, Annette quaking in fear that she was about to be run down by a scooter. Every type of ...
Jodhpur, India ranette... Managed to get a rickshaw in the middle of the night and he, miracle of miracles, actually took me to my hotel while cheating me minimally. The hotel was full of tourists-who I found a bit annoying-but was an amazing Haveli with super-friendly staff and a good all-veg restaurant, located at the foot of the fort. Backtracking a bit, the hotel in Pushkar was a perfectly lovely place, but played this horribly new-agey chanting music ...
