Fatehabad Road Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, 282001, 91-562-2331332
We have been on the road for 2 weeks and I think we are finally getting the hang of real travel. Woke at the ungodly hour of 0430 and packed our bags for our first train ride in India. The scene on arrival to the station is beyond description to anyone who has not been to India. Thousands of people piling out of hundreds of vehicles (and I am not talking only cars and taxis, no there are rickshaws, trucks, buses, pedal bike transports, and animal drawn carts) all rushing to catch their train ...

... off by saying ok originally you said you didnt want money so you're not getting any!
One thing he did point out was the tomb of the emperor's favourite elephant. He used the elephant as his decision making tool. If the elephant liked you - no problem. If he didn't and gave a certain signal you had a BIG problem....gad knows if it's a true story but I liked it (wonder why???)

Thnn off to the city ...
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India carole91... it was built for.
We definitley dont refret our visit to Agra as seeing the Taj Mahal was more than worth it. On the negative side, its definitely set up to exploit the tourists with high prices, annoying touts and rickshaw drivers. Its left a sour taste on what should have been one of the most impressive days of our trip so far.
Back to the train station with considerably lighter pockets, for a 5 hour wait for our train to Varanasi.

Nicola and Darryl x
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India darrylandnicola... masonry and gardens. It may sound funny to say it, but the Taj Mahal (and all the amazing out buildings which complete the imagery) reminded me of the streets of Berlin; The architecture is strong, powerful and shouts authority. For me, the comparisons were present in both sight and feel and having queued for half an hour to get in, we took our famous photo (on the same bench that princess Diana graced all those years ago) and departed.
<br ...
Indianët martohen kryesisht me shkuesi. Kjo lloj martese është zakon në të gjithë vendin, pa dallim shtrese ...
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India agjenciaemagic... in the world, with the second largest population, would not improve its public transport system since independence over sixty years ago. most people have a mental image of a cardboard box travelling round the side of a mountain at walking pace, with people stuffed inside, hanging off the doors and balancing themselves on the roof.
in fact, if you book a seat in the reserve second class carriage, you dont get much padding underneath you but you have plenty of space, and the seats ...
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India ex-cessionThis is the first time that I have started to write and deleted everything, just because I cannot begin to describe the beauty.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so I leave you with pictures that I took in Agra and a few that people took of me.
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India shonyel_16... though a little more crowded than I'd hoped, led the way to the 180 foot marvel that, despite having seen the mausoleum pictured a hundred times, did not fail to set my heart racing. I couldn't stop grinning as I walked towards the spectacle, and the sheer size really did overwhelm me, as all the reviews and guidebooks promised. I spent over an hour walking around, admiring, taking photos, and finally (a little reluctantly) left.
I returned to my hotel room to have ...
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India owain... complicated card game, I will leave her to it. The rest of the train journey? Pretty uneventful, just had a chat to a guy with 8 kids! Very nice family. We found a rickshaw and whizzed through the night to a guesthouse.... I think I mentioned we have become lazy. We still are. No guide book. No guesthouse knowledge / recommendation so we relied on the rickshaw driver. We got to the guesthouse to find 2 of the biggest ...
Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India thomaswguy... we got up early to get to the Taj Mahal for sunset. Completley unnecessary since the sun didnt set over the Taj and everyone else had the same idea.....! But never mind, it was still an impressive site, mainly due to the scale of the building and lots and lots of marble. We dutifully did our best princess diana poses in front of the monument! Now time to move on...hurrah, out of the cities and into somewhere quieter and calmer....
