... friendly guesthouse politely informed us the fires would not be lit until 5.30pm. I went to bed, shivered in my -15C sleeping bag and was unable to sleep because of the cold despite my exhaustion. That night we met two very friendly Germans from Hamburg, Olaf and Elizabeth. So we finally arrived in Siliguri, met a few french people along the way and we all shared a jeep for the three hour very bumpy ride up to Darjeeling. We noticed a drop in temperature half way through the trip up to Darjeeling, definitely getting colder. The trip up was a little hair raising but beautiful views all at the same time.
