... statue of Stalin. Gori was occupied during the 2008 Russian invasion and according to our guide, was badly damaged at that time. She points out shrapnel and bullet holes in the post-office and a couple of other buildings, but the town is so run-down that I’m left with the feeling that the Russian invasion is a rather convenient excuse.
