Arrival in Barcelona

... While some flights had to be diverted because of the storm, our plane was already at the airport and we didn't suffer any delays at all. Which was good, because Monday never seemed to end. Well, maybe it did eventually end, but it just kind of blurred into an even longer Tuesday. It took a grand sum total of 13 hours to finally make it here (not as bad as some others that we were ...

Busy in Barcelona - Park Guell, Sagrada Familia

... pm and there were still lots of people in the park. I took heaps and heaps of photos - especially of the wonderful longest-in-the-world park bench that is covered in tiles and mosaic work. This is what I saw photos of in 2001 and why I have wanted to come to Barcelona ever since I arrived in Poland at the end of 2001. It was worth it. There are lots of other features worth seeeing there as well and it was so much nicer in the cooler evening, and without so many ...

we´re not in kansas anymore

... something that also caught my eye...actually two things, the first was that each dragon thing had people to spin it around when the fireworks were going off. i saw a guy with a beer in one hand, and cigerette in the other helping out. it just didnt seem like something that would happen at home. and to top it off, this guy then put two fireworks in his mouth, the sparks spraying everywhere, and danced around like the dragons. definitely not in kansas anymore.

Barcelona

... saint of Barcelona. She was a thirteen-year-old Roman Catholic virgin who suffered martyrdom in Barcelona during the persecution of Christians in the reign of emperor Diocletian (A.D. 303). For refusing to recant her Christianity, the Romans subjected her to thirteen tortures, including rolling her in a barrel filled with knives and glass down a ...

Barcelona. Did you know they had the Olympics?

... people are to Barcelona. They dress up in all sorts of clothing from trees to Ronaldinho to bicyclists to a guy sitting on a toilet (this one was pretty tacky), and crowds gather around and watch them stand still, or act weirdly, or whatever. I enjoyed these people more when their gig was being absolutely still, like 5 years ago, but now most of them move, which takes the fun out of it. It seems to take the talent out if it as well. I wish there were more street ...

Crack heads, prostitutes and pick pocket alley

All right people i'm back alive and not in jail so all relax. Barcelona where do we start, ok the begining we rock into town and spend some time trudging around looking for our hostel which after some time we manage to find and its a very nice place and has air con. Its a nice place the street its on not so nice it is about 300m off a side street off the main drag La Rambla which s packed with tourists. On any given day in these 300m u have to contend with between 3 ...

Gorgeous Barcelona

... full. However, that was fine... I expected to be able to book a couple of nights more as the probability ratios were on my side. Out of 400 reservations, someone has got to cancel for some reason or another, especially with the French-Spanish train strike near the border. Right, let us talk about that strike (btw, I cannot use apostrophe in this entry... it is yet another different keyboard). I was travelling with Danny on the night train from ...

Sangria, salsa, hobos and crazy people

... up taking one of the little beer hustlers up on a six pack and sat down on a bench, knocked back a few tinnies and observed all the crazy stuff that ended up being really entertaining. The next day we saw the tourist Barcelona. La Ramblas during the day was a whole different picture, their were thousands of tourists, kick ass street performers that all added to a really lively atmosphere. We also checked out that crazy cathedral thingy by Gaudi and ...
