... as our first leg was London to Brussels on the Eurostar. After a 3 hour train trip, we arrived in Brussels, ready to sample their fine beer. Not too shabby for a first day. The Belgians do make very good beer but the thing they really excel at is chocolate. The secret ingredient is the cocoa beans from Africa and of course the cream. Given that our travels have seen us dining out for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we thought ...

Got up, had breakfast then checked out at 11, walked to the station and put our bags in the lockers then headed to the old part of Antwerp where we wandered around and did a bit of window shopping and chocolate smelling! Had a bit of lunch and got some food for tomorrow (as its Sunday) then headed to the station where we got the train to Lille at just before 4. Arrived in Lille a couple of hours ...

Back to our room for a few pre-excursion drinks and then we were heading for the Eiffel Tower to see in the New Year......... Continued Part ...

... but I just don't think people should be charged to get into a place of worship. Uncool, Antwerp, uncool. We just saw the church from the main entrance, but not much else. So, we moved on. We walked through to town to find Antwerp's Grand Place which isn't as surprising or breathtaking as Brussels' but does have a really sweet fountain in the middle of it! The Stadhuis in Antwerp is also a UNESCO World Heritage site! We grabbed a coffee and ...

... before New Years. In my second visit to the city, I again loved the appeal of the canals and life on them, with charming houses and boats, but was turned off by the demographic of people in the center -- all there for drugs, sex, or both. I hate people, but I especially hate young people…and they're even worse at New Years.

The first night we met up with my German friend, Peter, and his far-crazier German friends, and eventually slipped away from them to talk ...
