Today we set off for Antwerp, which is to say we got on a train for half an hour so as to have a day-trip to the city. It's a very nice city to walk around, though it lacks the charming canals of Ghent and Brugge. If I were to recommend a visiting order for those planning on seeing all three cities, I'd say do the opposite of what we did. With each city (Antwerp-Ghent-Brugge) you go from a greater to a lesser intermixture of the modern with the old. Going in ...

... We did not linger, do anything rude, or look suspicious in anyway. Shortly after, though, a guard on the other side of the fence followed us down the road, tracked one of us down asking her to delete all of her pictures, and then asked us (except for me!) to do the same if we had them. We were really happy to see our little princess Aanya after a ...

After a long night "sleeping" in the airport, we were ready to get to Brussels. When checking in, I noticed that Aer Lingus had similar carry-on restrictions to Ryanair. For those of you that don't know, that means about half the size and weight of American airlines. Clearly, I had purchased the largest possible carry-on; David had a normal-sized backpack, but obviously, that wouldn’t have cut it for me. Seven weeks is a long time, and I have to make sure to at least try ...

    Across the (mill) Pond?

... timings of these ships are harsh, often anti social and the ports frequently miles from civilisation. But that is the deal – clearly not for everyone. Another factor that I believe is necessary for a pleasant experience on this type of ship is to have self confidence. Nobody is going to invite you to the bridge or make introductions to other people on board. You have to make the running yourself, often with pleasing results. The Filipino crews especially are ...
