We woke up today on the French Rivera in Mont Carlo. Located east of Nice, France on the northeast coast, Monte Carlo has long served as a major port for the area. In fact our cruise ship, the Nieuw Amsterdam is docked in the old "Port de Hercule." There are accounts of Julius Caesar landing his fleet in the harbor in 43 BC.

Just before leaving Switzerland we had a very unpleasant surprise, a €30 toll tunnel! Not the nicest thing to come to. The area of Italy we entered into was beautiful. It was an alpine area with mountains and valleys and little villages scattered throughout. A very pretty drive. After paying three more tolls in Italy we set the ...

... some of my fave cherries.

Walking around the old town - Vieux Nice - it was a maze of old buildings and hidden in between were the gems of cathedrals etc We checked out some of the buildings like the Cathedral of Saint - Reparate and the Palais Lascaris. Which was an aristocratic palace built in the middle of the 17th century. Now made into some museum.. it was kind of quiet walk around the creaky building made to display many ...
