Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

After walking for an hour we got lost and during a rain shower we made our way to the lake. Walked along the lake to a Funicular tram carriage that took us up a very steep mountain to the top of Mt Como. Took ...

... the sign that basically said 'this is a sacred place and everyone needs to be silent'. Everyone except the tour leaders carting groups of up to 50 tourists around the church talking into their microphones and waving there flags, daffodils or sign boards so the tourists know who to follow. So if you get the hint that i might be a little sarcastic here, well, you are onto me! You dont get luxury of turning a church into a theme park and ...
