I loved Jaisalmer. The people were very friendly and kind, no hassling and a really nice hotel with great food ( especially shakshuka) and view of the fort. The city is very peaceful and the atmosphere relaxed. The fort is beautiful but the palace inside was disappointing.
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India jbentovimJoel: After a 19 hour overnight train journey we arrived in Jaisalmer, "the golden city", on the edge of the Thar Desert stretching westwards to Pakistan. The last few days have been wonderful and it has been a magical place to spend some time. We got a lift from the station from a nice guy who was was very unpressurising - he took us to his newly converted 19th century Haveli, which was beautiful and was barely more than the other bland cheapo place we'd considered - no contest! We had a big...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India joelroseNamaste! OK, priznam, lazeva!
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India m_in_t_travels Our bad luck in Jodhpur continued into our final morning as we were rudely awoken at 3.45am by our rickshaw driver!! 45 minutes early and demanding double the fare to wait around!! We had no choice but to agree but we reckon it might have been a scam?!?!? To make matters even worse the train was an hour late and arrived at 615am so we could have enjoyed more of a lie in!!
Glad to put Jodhpur behind us, we arrived in the middle of the Thar desert at Jaisalmer. We were greeted by a melee of...
... that the advert lied when we got to Jaiur. The first thing to hit you is the pollution which stings the back of your throat, then it's the smell of sewage, even worse than the smell in Korea and then its the constant hassle from touts. I got my hostel and arranged for a rickshaw to take us around the city the next day for about 4 pound between 4 of us. Theres loads to do ad see in Jaipur the highlights included the monkey temple which was a climb up a big hill to the north of the ...
Jaisalmer, Rājasthān, India indiaken... green, red, yellow- the colors of this subcontinent, docile eyes staring out at you from underneath immense, downturned eyelashes. monkeys have the run of the towns and temples come dusk, jumping with simian agility from rooftop to blue rooftop, or just contemplating another sunset over the lake palace of udaipur from their vantage point of the tip of a sacred hindu temple column. jaisalmer has that temporal, shifting impermanence and rugged outpost ...
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India ana.k... group was feeding. A dog seemed to be guarding the access to the birds, first chasing off a cow and then his wary eyes on M. Our driver "talked" to the dog and asked M to go ahead, "no problem" he said. The european lady then commented "if the distance get too close, it's a problem". Well, M is aiming for a great shot :) The lady begun her wary eyes on M, while I was busy catching the cranes taking off ...

Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India mikelaAfter our last blog we decided to go and find ourselves some dinner. Recomended by our hotel, we decided to try out this resturant which turned out to be just our style...romantic. I should first tell you all that the number of dinners by candlelight, romantic settings, double beds, bubblebaths and whole 'just for two' moments would be enought to last any couple a lifetime. So when we saw this restaurant with cusions and kneeling tables out on one of the turrets of the ...
jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India horshamJaislamer is a small but interesting place, boiling hot in the day, freezing cold at night. While it is not exactly tiny, it is rather small for Indian standards. A good portion of the people actually live inside the old Fort, which is rapidly deteriorating, but remains the center of the town. The industry here is mostly tourism from what I gathered, and the bread and butter of the trade is ...
