Of course as we knew this was our last day in Europe. Without hesitation for me this was the best day overall. It literally flew by in the blink of an eye. We woke up and headed the French Alps. Still I am surprised how we just drive in and out of countries without hesitation.  Ariving at The Alps we got together, and got our tickets and headed to the cable cars. A feature of the landscape in the Pas de Calais is the preponderance of little wayside chapels housing statues of Christ or The Madonna. Most are in good order despite their age. Even more frequently seen were roadside crucifixes of varying size and ornateness, each tanding as testament to the strong Catholic tradition that ...

... raining when I arrived. I've only been to Switzerland once before on one of those Contiki tours so I sort of knew what to expect but then I was a little surprised when all the signs were in French - I can bumble my way through German (as you would expect) but not French. Of course Lausanne is right on the border of Switzerland and France so it is to be expected that everybody speaks French. I stayed with Kathy and her partner Carsten for 3 nights ...
