... I was there for the last day of the Barcolana
Regatta, a two weekend long sailing festival. That would explain why I could
not find any accommodation for Saturday night in Trieste while there was plenty
available for Sunday night. This being Italy any festival also becomes a
festival of food and wine and music as well as the main purpose, and the
waterfront was lined with booths selling all kinds of Italian products and very

in Vienna. It was my first time witnessing so-called dressage in person. It’s
elegant and all and a good show, but I still can’t believe dressage is an

They say "When in Rome…….." so I made it a point to try a few truffle dishes, but I have to say they’re not something I can’t live without. ...

... and more appealing because of its harbor, large central square, city walls on its land side, and a church complex on the hill above town. The Parish Church of Saint George is especially well endowed with works of art, including a statue of crucified Christ that’s considered one of the most important works of Slovenian medieval art.

We will depart in the morning for the Venice airport. We will return our car and take a boat to Venice for a three day stay in this great city. The trip is about a two hour drive from the farm, and our check in time is no later than 1:00 PM. We should be at our B & B by 3-4, if we can locate in this very confusing city to navigate. We will catch a boat taxi to the Rialto ...
