... junction to which for some reason I simply
have no memory of at all. The area is surrounded by magical Dolomite looking
mountains and really is spectacular. I have been up this road a number of times
but I certainly never remember it ever being this spectacular.

Trams in the city center and lots of trees around, something we didn't see much of in ...

... Then onto a bus for the next leg (unfortunately there were doing train works), bus trip for about 20 mins then off we get and onto the platform for our next train! Hmmm, seems we have missed our next train, as the bus was late! So we have to wait an hour, a bit of a bugger but we take the opportunity to find a coffee and hot chocolate. An hour later we are on our next train (the fifth transport for the trip), where we sat for a little over an hour. pretty countryside, ...

... would be a quick detour to see another of Ludwig's castles on the Chiemsee, the largest lake within the confines of Germany (the Bodensee is larger but shares a border with Switzerland). To get to the castle, one takes a ferry to an island, and there is greeted with a slightly-smaller replica of Versailles, named the Herrenchiemsee, an homage to Ludwig's hero, Louis XIV, and resplendent under over 14 pounds of gold leaf. Although never finished ...
