On the road to Austria via Liechtenstein. Bern tells us that today is brought to us by the letter "S" .... Swarovski, Schnitzel , Strudel and Schapps :) We drove through some stunning countryside with soaring mountains and rolling green hills before stopping at the Liechtenstein capital of Vaduz. A really quaint little town with some interesting sculptures in the town square. Overlooking the town is the palace of the royal family. We had ...

Zugspitz - the highest peak in Germany

... cold air invaded the train. At the plateau we took pictures. The non-glacier side was covered with fog. We didn't see the free slides or we would have done it earlier. This little town had hosted the Winter Olympics and is located a few kilometers away from Austria and Liechtenstein. You expected Maria VonTrap to jump out of a church here and start singing "The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music".

On one of our hikes in the hills we came ...

... and a half tour. We were in a group with about 40 Americans on a tour. The guide was very good, and the castle was magnificent. Much nicer and more opulent than Versailles. Never finished and hardly lived in, but just amazingly over the top. Grabbed a lovely sache torte from the cafe. Ignored the horse and carriages, and walked back down the mountain, and caught the bus back to Fussen.

Back to our hostel to pick up the gear, then lunch at Nordsee say before ...
