bed bugs, 17 roommates, and thunder storms

So I made it to Chur on Wednesday from Zermatt. I had taken the Glacier Express, which was incredible. The scenery and landscapes were picture perfect, and I took a lot of photos! I had a hard time finding the hotel, and the heat didnt make things easier. By the time I found it, I was not in the greatest of moods- surprising isn't it! So when I got up to my dorm room, which I thought was going to be an 8 bed dorm, it turned out to be an 18 bed dorm room- you could imagine how my mood turned f...

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!
Across the border

Our third stop of the day was our first in Austria. Now I was entering undiscovered lands! Feldkirch is right on the Switzerland border. The old town centre is surrounded by towers, and a castle sits on a hill above.

We explored Feldkirch and a few of its towers. The old town is quite charming with its colorful buildings, trickling fountains, and small shops. When we tried to ...

... building, and the government building. This area looks very modern but blends well into the surrounding mountains and old houses and buildings.

It was a sunny day but a bit chilly. I decided the best way to warm up was to hike up to the castle. I started walking up a steep hill that I thought would lead me to the castle. It passed through a beautiful residential area and eventually ended at a trail head. Perfect! From there I ...

... I suppose this is the traditional way to eat fondue but it was not enough to make a satisfying meal out of. The barley soup we ordered with the fondue, typical of the Grissons, was highlight of the meal. Also it is important to note that the Swiss have their own currency because well...they are the Swiss and they have to always be different than the rest of western Europe. The exchange rate used ...

... even for my back!
We climbed out of Chur(584m) seated in our own carriage. It being the normal route train to Tirano plenty of other passengers filled the other carriages. However, ours seemed to be the only Observation type. Quite useful to see the magnificent views, but not so brilliant if a keen photographer. Probably more useful to board a normal carriage which would allow the window to be lowered, avoiding reflections, weather permitting, in order to take ...

... know when you were in and when out of that small country. It was an ongoing with us that we missed Vaduz completely although on the map it showed that the road we were on had passed through that town. Down to Chur next where we had great difficulty finding a hotel...any hotel. There were not dozens of brown signs to help us in this town and although we drove around and around the central area damned if we could see any hotels but the one next to the railway which looked to be a ...

... villages. I took pictures from the bus and am hoping that they come out so that we can share them with you. We simply will not be able to describe the views. Heaven on earth! We disembarked in Tiefencastel to catch the train to St. Moritz. Again, I just can’t say enough about the scenery. The train ride to St. Moritz is indescribable. I know I’ve used the term before, but again it’s true! Riding the train in the mountains, going higher and higher, the mountains ...

It consisted of appetizers (I’m not a big fan); the main course, which was beef & gravy with noodles and potatoes in a cream sauce, green beans and ham... and (the best part) DESSERT! The dessert table was out of this world...cheeses, plum cake, walnut & shortcake pie, warm plums with ice cream, and (yes!) warm STRUDEL with a cream topping. WOW! Europeans ...
