Two Russians as expected, a couple, they have the bottom bunks. Cant work out there age but are a bit older than Helen and I. We sit politely, introduce and completely miss their names, it is the accent rather than the name. They speak a little english, but not much. They will be on the ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation johnpennock... up 8 flights of stairs in a delapidated 19th Century Building. Luckily the exterior was deceptive!
We settled into our entirely male dorm (half of whom were sleeping at 6pm-suffering, as we later discovered, from Moscow Sleeping Sickness), before eating out at the exquisitely named 'Moo Moo'.
Back at the Hostel, we didn't have a particularly restful night, as one of our male dorm companions clearly had trouble digesting Russian cuisine. Yummy.
On day 1, we were ...
... life Russians, who've helped us to order plenty of drinks, and very nearly had Finola dancing on the bar last night. We've also seen about three fights, spilling from bars into the street, and on Monday night a window fell out of it's frame and onto the three patrons sitting beneath it, smashing over their heads, showering them with glass but miraculously not hurting them. It made an enormous CRASHING sound, and a Russian guy we had met started ...
Moscow, Moscow, Russia ianandfinola... s my last day in Moscow and I am coming around a little, still pretty tired though. I did get a chance to do a sightseeing tour, I spent a few hours wandering Red Square and spent some time visiting metro stations as well as an amazing local market. Moscow has been interesting, scary and paranoid inducing all in one go. There are police everywhere and at anytime ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation cora_explorer... the window and so that I didn't arrive there too late at night. The station was huge and I felt nervous and excited inn anticipation for the next place - I wondered if I'd feel like this every time I moved on? It was sad to leave the people that I had met but looking forward to meeting new people. So I found my platform (In the HUGE station) and had to show my ticket and passport to get on the train along with everyone else. I found my compartment and was please to discover I had ...
Moscow, Central Russia, Russian Federation watchoutworld... kept talking for almost the entire trip. Not sure if it would have been less annoying if I had understood Russian but at least then I would have understood what he was saying. At first I thought it was someone talking on a cell phone as all cell phone users tend to talk louder than necessary (I'm just as guilty of that) but as time went on and he was still ranting and raving I realized that no, he was just talking. No one was listening he was just talking. Someone did tell ...
Moscow, Russian Federation eileenj... and Ashley Cole put their chances away and Chelsea had just one more to make after Nani tied it up at 4-4 for Man U. People around me are hugging and the little boy behind me is crying with joy as his favorite player, John Terry, gets to seal the deal for Chelsea. Apparently the rain was coming down harder than it looked as sure foot Terry slipped as he struck the ball and missed wide!!! In a matter of 2 seconds, the Chelsea victory had ...
Moscow, Russia isimonova... much. We are about in our fourth hour. The scene got too me a bit. I realize what is ahead of us. Four days of : stinking hot air, not much room at all... we are basically limited to our beds--laying position. no hot water, smelly bathrooms. no privacy at all...and I must admit that these fatigued faces of the older Russians looking at us, or staring out the window...got me a bit down...but ...
