... tourists aren’t so thick on the ground and restaurants cater more to
locals. In those places I had some very good regional cuisine. I ate two
restaurant meals in Trieste and both of them were delicious. Italians know how
to do pizza, pasta, and other Italian food well. Much of the pizza and pasta I
had in the Balkans, especially Croatia, was quite poor, but in Italy they know
how to serve their pasta al dente and their pizza thin and crisp.

The Parish Church of Saint George is especially well endowed with works of art, including a statue of crucified Christ that’s considered one of the most important works of Slovenian medieval art.
