... with the luggage. A train had just pulled in and I feared it might be ours but no Christine. I asked someone and sure enough the train was ours. We raced down the stairs under the tracks and back up to the right track to see the doors close as we tried to get on. Argh. Back to the schedule to learn we had an hours wait. This was a lazy day. Mid-morning we headed out to walk the the other side of the river. Most of the walk was through the Ducal Gardens and a surrounding residential neighbourhood. The Ducal Gardens are sadly neglected. The grass was unkempt, most of the statutes were missing body parts and the fish pond was quite scummy. The Ducal palace is now used as offices for the army. ... and produce. We keep trying to get over there but there is just so much great food to choose from! For lunch we randomly picked a restaurant, La Forchettta, and had a fabulous lunch. We shared 3 appetizers: an asparagus mousse sitting in a pool of Parmesan cream sauce, deep fried Parmesan puffs, and a plate with a variety of hams. Really delicious. ... some fruit, rolls cheese and salami. There is a food festival this weekend so will try some of the local delicacies. Written the next morning....Oh what a night! It is ok to read on, as we are referring to dinner. We went to the premier restaurant in Parma, called I Parizzi. It is a hotel/restaurant/cooking school. And even though the kids' inheritance is notably smaller, it was the best meal we have ever had. We did not take pictures. The room was cellar-like but ...
