... dinner until about 8:00 p.m. – but from that point on, the joint was jumping! Our meal, like many in this part of Europe, started with a meat plate which included proscuitto and salami. This was followed by bread and "chip puffs" - not sure what these are actually called but they were very light, puffy and delicious.

... only did he make it to third base - and with Coach Vo as the third base coach you can be sure there was a large body protecting Sam with every pitch so no line drive might make contact - but Sam boldly stole home with an impressive slide into home plate. The crowd of course roared!

Following the 12-0 win, both teams posed for a photo and the Italians and Warhawks exchanged hats.

After a wonderful visit in Venice we arrived at Hotel Airone in the Italian city of Reggio Emilia. The inhabitants of this city usually just call it Reggio - it began as a Roman Colony in the 2nd Century (can you believe the history!).

Our host in this area, Andreas, recommended this hotel as the stadium hosts many baseball teams who also stay here. While we were staying for 2 nights, an Italian soccer team was also in residence. Each room included half board ...

... did not want to go but he indulged the rest of us. Then we heading back closer to Parma and went to Antica Corte Pallavicina where a mini castle from the 1400's houses a cellar full of prosciutto ham.( see pics) We had a wonderful lunch there complete with linens, silver and sophisticated wait staff...all very posh and fun to learn about their region.
